Muse is a mobile app designed to help writers overcome mental blocks and rediscover their creative flow. Faced with daily distractions and unavoidable day-today pressures, many creatives find themselves lost and unable to sustain momentum in their ideas, leading to stalled projects and prolonged creative blocks.
As the sole UX/UI designer on the project, I conducted in-depth user research and combined feedback from interviews to identify overlapping pain points such as life stressors, procrastination, and recurring mental barriers. I created a whimsical visual style that sets a playful tone for the app. This project strengthened my skills in user research, interaction design, and narrative-driven UI, and reinforced the importance of aligning emotional design with user needs. These insights served as building blocks for the wireframes, such as calming meditateive exercises and writing prompts that challenge the user with fresh, diverse topics. These thoughtful tools work together to inspire creativity, enabling writers to push past obstacles and reconnect with their craft.
User personas were developed that captured key creative and emotional challenges. These guided the design of features like the prompt generator, writing exercises, and whimsical visuals. These features shaped an app that inspires while offering thoughtful, meaningful support.

I started by interviewing writers and how they interact with writing as well as their writing habits. To make sense of the responses, I used affinity mapping to organize themes surrounding habits, common pain points, and motivations. These insights, summarized by the graphic below, helped shape the direction of Muse's user experience.

Open card sorting helped shape Muse’s structure by revealing how users naturally group creative and support tools. Insights from these sessions guided the app’s navigation and labeling, ensuring an intuitive, writer-friendly experience.

Muse is a whimsical yet grounded writing app inspired by medieval themes, blended with creativity and care. Kastel Voire logotype anchors the identity with a touch of elegance and storybook charm.

To embody Muse’s story-driven spirit, I designed a character who embodies courage and strength. Riding through a dreamlike landscape, she evokes courage, movement, and imagination. Medieval-inspired details like her horse, stars, and sword invite users into a world where ideas roam free, with hand-drawn elements that reinforce the app’s whimsical identity.
